January 26, 2010 – Washington, DC – After hearing news that the Bronx was one of the communities with the highest hunger rates in the nation, Congressman José E. Serrano today called for an immediate effort to increase access to food and food assistance.
On Tuesday, January 26, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. announced a $4 million federal grant awarded to the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE). The grant establishes the “Center for Environmental Workforce Training”, a program that will prepare Bronx residents to work in the growing “green” jobs marketplace.

New legislation will help bodega and small business owners finance energy efficiency retrofits
New York, NY – On Tuesday, Congressman Steve Israel (D – Long Island), Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez joined the President of the Bodega Association of the United States Ramon Murphy and Camilo Grocery and Products owner Jabel Camilo of Washington Heights to announce a new green bodega initiative to help bodega and other small business owners save money on their energy bills by boosting their energy efficiency.
